Crowned and Enthroned

2023

#installation (chairs, printed image on paper)

London, UK

British identity and institutions into a collision of object image and material.

In this installation, I place a folded paper replica of the Coronation Chair on a stack of institutional chairs. The entire setup is noticeably tilted, and the height of the installation prevents anyone from sitting on it.

In the realm of mass industrial production, these chairs are designed to stack only to a certain extent. However, the chairs I have stacked exceed the intended design, and when they reach human height, they are prone to collapsing. The degree of tilt in the installation also symbolizes instability.

The cardboard box featuring an image of the Coronation Chair appears diminutive in comparison to regular chairs. As the chairs are stacked to human height, individuals find themselves at eye level with this symbol of royal authority.
